Yamato-machi used to be called “Jomyoji Monzen-machi”. Jomyo Temple is ahighly prominent temple, built for the Watarai clan who ruled this regionduring Tempyo Period(729-749). Various stores prospered along the road from thetop of the slope in Onoe-cho to the temple in Edo Era. However,in the antiBuddhist movement in the early years of Meiji Era, the temple was demolished. Thehill of the tempLe was cultivated and connected to Miyuki Road,thus dividedinto two sections.
